The Club

The club was first formed in 1948 and now enjoys a comfortable clubhouse with commanding views of the Bristol Channel.

Club boats are moored either on pontoons giving 24hr access or on river moorings. The River Brue and Parrett are tidal hence we have a considerable rise and fall during the tidal sequence.

Members own a range of boats, sailing dinghies, 40ft sailing cruisers, motor cruisers, and fishing boats. We also provide a Pilot Gig Rowing & Fishing Section. Pilot Gig Rowing is one of the fastest team water born sports. The Isles of Scilly and many locations in the South West have their own Gig Clubs.

Whilst we are predominantly a sailing club,  motor cruisers or fishing boats are very welcome. The emphasis is getting afloat.

We use drying moorings on the River Brue. Vessels are held by fore and aft mooring chains. Our mooring officer allocates places on the river as appropriate and on a first come first served basis. All persons with vessels in the river whether on a mooring or pontoon require a river licence, this is payable by the club to the Crown Commissioners.

The pontoon system provides berths for 24 boats, visitors berths, and a loading unloading berth. Twenty-four hour access to boats is available via a walkway. Berth holders are required to enter in to a 12 month berthing agreement with the club, and pay a monthly berthing fee based on overall boat length.

Occasionally during the summer, and especially during the winter there can be vacant berths on the pontoon system. The club lets out these vacancies on a short term availability basis. The option to take up winter berths is especially useful to all boat owners as it allows access for maintenance.

Water and electric is available on the pontoons, diesel is available from garages in town.

We sail in tidal waters so consequently our sailing time is limited by the tide which gives us access for approximately 2 hours either side of high water.
